Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube Type: 

Sterile Container

Collection Information: 

Collect urine in a sterile container. A first morning, clean-void specimen is preferred. Random clean-void, catheterized and suprapubic specimens are acceptable.

Transport Information: 

Transport 10.0 mL of urine in a sterile container or plastic transport vial.

Minimum Sample Volume: 

1.0 mL of urine

Unacceptable Conditions: 

Timed or 24 hour specimens, BD Vacutainer® C&S Preservative Tube (Boric Acid Tube). BD Vacutainer® C&S Preservative Tube (Boric Acid Tube) tubes may cause erroneous results on several of the chemistry paramaters. These tubes should be used for culture and sensitivity only.
