Specimen Requirements

Preferred Collection Container: 

SST (Serum Separator)

 

Also Acceptable Collection Container: 

Red (No Additive)

 

Collection Information: 

Collect blood in a SST (Serum Separator). Red (No Additive) also acceptable.

 

Transport Information: 

Centrifuge and aliquot 0.5 mL of serum into a plastic transport vial. Send refrigerated.

 

Minimum Sample Volume: 

0.3 mL of serum (approximately 0.6 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)

 

Unacceptable Conditions: 

Gross hemolysis or gross lipemia
