Collection Information: 

Collect fecal specimens in clean, leak-proof containers.

 

Transport Information: 

Transfer sample into a sterile plastic transport vial or into an ETM (Cary Blair Transport vial). Send refrigerated.

 

Remarks: 

False negative results may occur if a patient has used antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, or bismuth compounds in the 14 days prior to sample collection. Positive results that occur from patients on one of these compounds during this time period are still considered accurate.
 

Unacceptable Conditions: 

Stool on swabs.
