Specimen Requirements
In order to perform CBC testing, the CBC must be ordered separately from the DIC profile.
EDTA and sodium citrate whole blood are required.
Specimens must arrive within 4 hours of draw.
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Light blue top (sodium citrate)
Specimen Volume: 2.7 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Tube must be filled to the etched line of the tube
2. Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.
3. If there is a delay in transport of >4 hours, spin down and send 1 mL of frozen plasma in plastic vial.
Additional Information: Label specimen appropriately (whole blood for antithrombin III, D-dimer, FDP, fibrinogen, and PTT).
