Specimen Requirements
EDTA and sodium citrate whole blood are required.
Specimens must arrive within 4 hours of draw.
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) or lavender-top (EDTA) MICROTAINER
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 MICROTAINER
Collection Instructions:
1. Invert several times to mix blood.
2. Label specimen appropriately (whole blood for platelet count).
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: 2.7-mL, light-blue top (sodium citrate)
Specimen Volume: 2 full tubes
Collection Instructions:
1. Tube must be filled to the etched line of the tube
2. Invert several times to mix blood.
3. Label specimens appropriately (whole blood for PFA, PT, PTT, and TT).
4. If there is a delay in transport of >4 hours, spin down and send 1 mL of plasma in plastic vial.
5. Hemolyzed and frozen specimen are not acceptable.
