Specimen Requirements

Patient must be wearing an identification bracelet. All specimens must be completely labeled in accordance with AABB requirements. Refer to “Blood Bank Specimens” under the Resources section.

Specimen must be stored at 1° to 10° C until testing is completed.

Specimen Type: Whole blood, maternal

Container/Tube: Lavender or Pink  Top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 4 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Draw maternal blood as soon after delivery as possible.

2. Invert several times to mix blood.
