Specimen Requirements

Remarks: 

It is recommended to collect sample from fasting patients. 

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Plain, red top or SST

Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Protect specimen from light. Specimen cannot be analyzed if exposed to light for >4 hours.

2. Only good for 2 hours once uncapped and left open.  Aliquot and promptly cap specimen.  

Unacceptable Conditions: 

Specimens collected in EDTA tubes or Green top (heparin) tubes.
