Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive as soon as possible after draw.

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Specimen Type: Cord blood at birth

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) and plain, red top

Specimen Volume: 5 mL in EDTA and 7 mL in plain red top

Additional Information: Label specimens appropriately (EDTA and plain cord blood).

Specimen Type: Whole blood from newborn

Container/Tube: 7-mL lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Additional Information: Label specimen appropriately (whole blood from newborn).
