Specimen Requirements

Patient must be wearing an identification bracelet. All specimens must be completely labeled in accordance with AABB requirements. Refer to “Blood Bank Specimens” under the Resources section.

Specimen Type: Cord blood collected at birth

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) and Red top

Specimen Volume: 4 mL in EDTA and 6 mL in red top

Additional Information: Red top only required for in-house patients.
