Catheter Tip/Sterile Container

Transport Information: 

After removing catheter, aseptically cut 3 cm of the tip and place in a sterile screw-capped container. When ordering culture, indicate exact type of catheter.

Remarks: 

Transport to the Laboratory immediately. If unusual, fastidious, or slow-growing organisms are suspected, inform the Microbiology Laboratory. Be sure to comment if specific organisms are suspected. Identification and susceptibility tests are billed separately from culture. If prompt delivery is not possible store at refrigeration temperature.
 

Unacceptable Conditions: 

Foley catheter tips, specimen in nonsterile container.
