Specimen Requirements
Collection Information:
Anaerobic transport medium or syringe or tissue in sterile container
Remarks:
Must order corresponding routine culture also (CWOUND, CTISSU, CFLUID or CAERO).
This test can not be ordered independently. See Specimen Collection Guidelines. Identification and susceptibility tests are billed separately from culture.
Unacceptable Conditions:
Dry swab in a nonsterile container. Consult Microbiology for hard to collect specimens before rejecting.

Methodology
Organism Identification is performed by biochemical test and/or Bruker MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry RUO Database. Organism sensitivities (AST) are performed as applicable using Broth Microdilution and/or Gradient diffusion strips using FDA approved methodology and CLSI guidelines. Performance has been evaluated and verified by UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, Pathology Laboratory.
