Preferred Collection Container:
Light Green (Heparin Plasma Separator Tube
SST (Serum Separator)
Also Acceptable Collection Container:
Red (No Additive)
Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin)
Collection Information:
Collect blood in a serum separator or heparin plasma separator tube.
Transport Information:
Centrifuge and aliquot 1.0 mL of serum or plasma into a plastic transport vial. Send frozen.
Minimum Sample Volume:
0.3 mL of serum or plasma (approximately 0.6 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)
Unacceptable Conditions:
Specimens collected in EDTA tubes
Stability Comments:
Remove serum from cells ASAP and freeze.
