Specimen Requirements
Collection Information:
Preferred specimen: Nasopharyngeal wash, bronchial wash, bronchial lavage, and nasopharyngeal aspirates.
Acceptable: Nasal and nasopharynx swabs transported in Viral Transport Media.
Unacceptable Conditions:
Nose and throat swabs are not acceptable specimens and will be rejected.
Note:
1. The following specimens may be inhibitory to PCR testing and will be rejected:
A. Calcium alginate swabs.
B. Cotton-tipped swabs.
C. Swabs sent in gel or Aimies transport medium. (eSwabs)
