Specimen Requirements
Preferred Collection Container:
SST (Serum Separator)
Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube)
Also Acceptable Collection Container:
Red (No Additive)
Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin)
Plasma samples from lavender top tubes are acceptable, but will route to a PROBL spot in the Sunquest Laboratory Information System.
Collection Information:
Collect blood in a serum separator tube. (Serum red top also acceptable).
Transport Information:
Allow blood to clot at room temperature. Centrifuge and aliquot 0.5 mL of serum to a plastic transport vial. Send refrigerated.
Minimum Sample Volume:
0.25 mL of serum (approximately 0.5 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)
