Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube Type:
The Amnisure test swabs and collection vials are available by contacting the laboratory.
Collection Information:
- A physician or nurse is responsible for collection of specimen.
- Use the AmniSure® sterile polyester-tipped swab to collect a sample from the surface of the vagina while the patient is lying flat on back.
- Withdraw the swab after >1 minute.
- Place swab in solvent vial provided with test kit and rinse by rotating for>1 minute.
- Remove and dispose of the swab.
- Tightly screw on solvent vial cap.
- If testing cannot be performed within > 4 hours, the specimen may be stored refrigerated for up to 6 hours.
Unacceptable Conditions:
Reject specimens not collected with AmniSure® Test Kits.
Reject specimens collected with expired collection kits.
Reject specimens that still contain the swab.
Reject specimens that have leaked.
Reject specimens that are grossly bloody.
Reject room temperature specimens that are > 4 hours old.
Reject refrigerated specimens that are > 6 hours old.
Stability Comments:
If patient sample is not tested within 4 hours and sample storage is necessary, tightly close the sample vial and place in refrigerator for no more than 6 hours.
