Specimen Requirements

Patient must be wearing an identification bracelet. All specimens must be completely labeled in accordance with AABB requirements.

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Preferred:

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 7 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Invert several times to mix blood.

2. Do not centrifuge.

3. Specimen >2 days old or plasma gel tube is not acceptable.

Alternate:

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Plain, red top

Specimen Volume: 7 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Invert several times to mix blood.

2. Do not centrifuge.

3. Specimen >2 days old or serum gel tube is not acceptable.
