Specimen Requirements

Patient must be wearing an identification bracelet. All specimens must be completely labeled in accordance with AABB requirements.

EDTA whole blood and plain whole blood are required.

Specimen Type: EDTA whole blood

Container/Tube: 7-mL lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 2 full tubes

Collection Instructions:

1. Invert several times to mix blood.

2. Do not centrifuge.

3. Plasma or serum gel tube is not acceptable.

Specimen Type: Plain whole blood

Container/Tube: Plain, red top

Specimen Volume: 1 full tube

Collection Instructions:

1. Invert several times to mix blood.
