Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube Type: 

Anal/Perianal (Pinworm Collection Kit)

Transport Information: 

Remove the cap from the pinworm collector. In the cap is inserted a paddle, one side of which is coated with an adhesive material. This side is marked "sticky side." Don't touch this surface with the fingers. Separate the buttocks and press the sticky surface against several areas of the perianal skin with moderate pressure. Replace slide in vial. Screw the cap back on the vial. DO NOT CONTAMINATE WITH STOOL. If not using the pinworm collection kit, make sure clean tape is used.

Remarks: 

Collect the specimen first thing in the morning before defecation or bathing.

Stability Comments: 

If there is a large amount of fecal  material on the paddle, refrigeration is better.
